Article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention defines war crimes as: 'Wilful killing, torture or inhuman treatment, including ... wilfully causing great suffering, or serious injury, to body, or health'.

In 1945-46, the Nuremburg Trials were held in Germany, as a result of which 10 of the leading members of the German war machine were convicted and sentenced to death.

Slobodan Milosevic was charged with war crimes at the Hague. Ratko Mladic and Charles Taylor are two others who have been brought before this tribunal.

Could someone please distinguish the actions of the above from the actions of Martin McGuinness?

Why is he meeting the Queen, rather than the judges of the War Crimes Tribunal?

Could the explanation go as far back as the trip to London in the early 70s and his MI5 handler Michael Oatley?

And, as such, did the backroom boys of MI5 and others condone the IRA murder campaign as part of their long-term strategy?

Where is the outcry from the 'Never, never, never' man concerning justice for the families of the UDR and RUC whose next-of-kin were slaughtered by the IRA?
