What a farce. With so much diving, I thought I was watching the swimming.
Don't exaggerate, TJ. Diving is an unfortunate part of the game in every country now. Tired old cliches about diving have become a bit dull. You also saw one of the finest individual goals you will ever be likely to witness as long as you live.
A_Geezer: Feeling very grumpy. It seems that the main way to win is to get an opponent sent off at the earliest opportunity - by any means. Then you have an unfair advantage.
I'm with you, TJ. I must admit, I gave up watching football on TV many years ago, when sportsmanship was replaced by the ballet and amateur dramatics that has ruined the modern game. However, that night, being a very poor night on the TV, I decided to give it a second chance. Big mistake. I just could not believe how bad this sport has become. As far as I could see, there wasn't one decent role model on the pitch. And as for the so-called 'spectacular' goal, let's face it: when defenders are so scared to go anywhere near any attacking forward, anyone could have wandered in and scored that goal.
Ptarmi: You cannot believe how bad the sport has become? I would suggest that you don't really understand sport, or probably have never had any affection for football. Footballers go onto the pitch to try and win - not become 'role models'. And if you actually think that "anyone could have wandered in and scored that goal", you are seriously deluded.
A_Geezer: Sportsmanship - "Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing." That's a laugh. I am suggesting that none of these qualities were displayed by most of the players, or even by some of the management,
