Ministers' golf comments are pathetic shots
I write to express the SDLP's disappointment at junior ministers Martina Anderson and Jonathan Bell's comments about sectarianism in golf and their negative portrayal of the sport as a fraternity open only to the middle-classes.
The reality is that people of all classes love, watch and play golf.
People have been filled with great pride at the three Major wins achieved by Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke. We are excited about hosting the Irish Open in Portrush.
The singling out of golf undermines the positive contributions those involved in the sport are making to our society and does little to promote our region as a fantastic golfing destination. Passion for golf knows no sectarian, or class boundaries.
