Mystery of life open to debate
RUTH Moram's letter (Write Back, September 5) contains a non sequitur.
Philosophers and scientists can debate what defines life, but this has no connection with being like Pharisees, or Christ.
Nor does it mean we cannot comment on life's origins, and all indications are that its origins are chemical – not divine.
Her comments about biochemistry only working if the organism is alive are tautologous.
If an organism is dead, it is because its biochemical machinery is broken; therefore, its biochemistry no longer works.
