Needs of our young must not be ignored

Published 04/07/2016

Prior to my retirement, I was employed by an education and library board (now Education Authority) and worked in the area of special needs.

I am dismayed at the current plan to reduce the school hours for pre-school children who have special educational needs, as this can only impact negatively on their educational and social development.

Surely, it is time for our Executive to act decisively to reduce the needless expenditure incurred in maintaining the duplication of resources in our divided society, so the money may be freed up to address the educational and mental health needs of our young people.
