New clinic offers proper help to women

Published 22/10/2012

I am 74 years old and a widowed man who was married for 43 years.

Two years before I was married, my girlfriend got pregnant.

Within two days of telling her parents she was taken by her father to a back street abortion shop to have her pregnancy terminated.

Six years after we were married my wife got pregnant, but because of the physical damage from the previous back street abortion she lost the baby.

This hampered our sex life for the rest of our marriage, but luckily our love for each other was strong enough to survive until the day she died.

Surely we are moving forward to have such a modern facility as the Marie Stopes clinic in Belfast.
