New name is now needed for civil marriage

IN the early dawn of history, humans realised incest was not good. So a man had to go outside his family and relatives to get a wife.

The words of the marriage contract, are, "I take you as husband... I take you as wife."

A same-gender couple cannot truthfully say these words. So their contract cannot truthfully be defined as marriage.

But if, like Stephen Glenn (Write Back, June 17), the term 'civil partnership' is unacceptable, it logically follows that a new word should be coined: 'mirrorage'?
