Ni Chuilin term beyond the pale

I would like to register our party's disgust at a headline in the Belfast Telegraph - 'Control Freak' - in reference to Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister and Sinn Fein MLA Caral Ni Chuilin (March 13).

The use of this word is highly derogatory and to call anyone a freak, never mind putting it on the front page of a daily paper, shows a complete lack of morals and judgment.

This is the type of editorial judgment more akin to the Fleet Street gutter Press for which the Belfast Telegraph has never sunk to such depths.

The fact that you ran the headline on its own without reference to who said it implies that your paper is, indeed, calling the minister a 'control freak'.

Your newspaper, in the interests of its own reputation and standards, should issue a public apology to Caral Ni Chuilin and any members of her family that were insulted by this headline.
