Niqab defenders 'holier than thou'

THE defenders of the niqab are laying claim to our virtue of tolerance, but completely ignore another long-standing aspect of our character – a very strong dislike of those who make a spectacle of their own piety, mostly in order to highlight the supposed sin and vice of everybody else.
This idea is enshrined in our language in expressions like "self-righteous" and "holier than thou".
