No evidence for miracles

Published 03/04/2013

Contrary to John O'Connell's assertions (Write Back, April 2) there is no evidence for miracles beyond mere anecdote.

Suffering does not lead to empathy, being social does. Empathy evolved because it imparts a selective advantage in social animals, like primates and cetaceans. Non-social animals look upon the suffering of their fellows with indifference.

Religion is the ultimate in wishful thinking.

Dr Stephen Moreton
