Northern Ireland flag and anthem row is solvable

'Probably the only flag that both sides could possibly come to love. Perhaps the colour scheme is a bit biased.' - Conor O'Neill

THE recent call by Paddy Barnes for a new flag and anthem to represent Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games is a rather intriguing one, but one which can be easily resolved.

The flag used is the flag of the Executive Committee of the Privy Council of NI and was used from 1953 to 1972 by the NI Government. The use of an anthem which reflects the ethos of the particular parts of the UK is to be welcomed, but is there really a better one than the Londonderry Air?
