Not a royal watcher

Letters to the editor should be sent to: 124-144 Royal Avenue, Belfast BT1 1EB. E-mail: writeback@belfasttelegraph.co.uk

Although she expresses opinions about the Royal Family, it is clear Nell McCafferty knows little of the subject (Belfast Telegraph, August 31). She says the Royal Family 'must be considered dysfunctional when Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie go to Balmoral for Christmas dinner while their mother is in a different house'.

It is odd that Ms McCafferty does not know that the Royal Family never spends Christmas at Balmoral: that season is usually spent at Sandringham or (sometimes) Windsor.

It is hardly unusual for the children of a divorced couple to spend Christmas with one parent or the other rather than both.

And what evidence does she have that this arrangement is having a deleterious effect on the lives of the two children?
