Nuala is wrong over pro-lifers

Nuala McKeever in her column (Life, November 24) misses the point about the pro-life movement. This movement exists to promote the human rights of the unborn child. It is a human rights campaign and not a "blurring of the line between religion and politics" as she puts it.

Science shows that human life begins at conception when, after fertilisation, a unique genetically complete life starts. All the information regarding height, size, gender, intelligence, etc is present at this point. All human life begins in this way. It follows from this that human rights are conferred on the unborn at this point. The mother's life and the unborn child's life are of equal value.

The pro-life movement exists to promote the human rights of the unborn child and to declare that the lives of the mother and the unborn child are of equal value. By being conceived we are human, and as such have the right to life and all subsequent rights.
