One-in-four backs women's right to choose

But Bernadette Smyth keeps saying there is no demand for abortion.

Nick Martin

Having a reasoned debate with her was like trying to explain things to Caitriona Ruane.

Emmet Grogan

Why are women second-class citizens compared to women on the mainland? It shows what kind of men are in power here.

Sam_mildanach

Under current rules it's the women in the UK that are second-class. Are men not in power in the UK? But what the heck, let's have abortion as another form of contraception. Our standards are being eroded daily by do-gooders who just don't give a damn.

Chrisdoh

More than one-in-four people in Northern Ireland supports a woman's right to choose an abortion. So that means three-in-four people don't.

Louis Balfour

I think the article is pointing out that the younger generations show significantly higher levels of support, demonstrating a change of attitude in the population. It also shows that our politicians are out of step with the public.

Nick Martin

But it has nothing to do with those three out of four who don't support it. They are welcome not to terminate a pregnancy of their own. Who are they to stop someone else doing it? What gives the foetus the right to a woman's womb?

Ribtickler

Northern Ireland is the Iran of Europe. I have always said so. We have a mostly young, liberal population who do not go to church and who work in technology jobs and like to go out to bars. The power elite, however, are either fundamentalist lunatics, or Marxist guerillas.
