Our soldiers need their own parade

As we approach the end of the Irish Guards' and the Royal Irish Regiment's time in Afghanistan, we should properly welcome home these brave men and women.

No doubt they will parade in England, but we also need to show our gratitude with a parade.

Hopefully the welcome home parades will be allowed to pass off with decorum and respect.

But our respect cannot be short-lived. There will be those who return injured - physically and mentally - and for whom the days ahead will be difficult.

Let's all attend the homecoming parades, but also consider how we can help our service personnel by providing the aftercare they need as they recover to full health.
