Pathetic effort by UUP to justify itself

IN response to Councillor Mark McKinty (Write Back, May 20), he has little experience of dealing with the media at this level and is, therefore, unaware that one occasionally has a slip of the tongue. This is what happened on the BBC, which I swiftly corrected.

If Mr McKinty had done his homework, he would have discovered that both I and my party leader, David Ford, lobbied Westminster's Northern Ireland affairs committee for an extension to the Assembly term when its members visited Northern Ireland. On his point of "lack of legislation", he needs to put that issue at the feet of OFMDFM. This is no more than a pathetic attempt by the UUP to try to justify its existence.
