Payment for reservists more than welcome

News that part-time police officers who served during the Troubles could be in line for a payment as part of the financial package negotiated in relation to policing and justice devolution will be welcomed by the vast majority in Northern Ireland.

Our part-time officers played a valuable role in helping to defeat IRA terrorism and protect the rule of law in this part of the United Kingdom.

Since the Patten Report was negotiated by the UUP, the reputation of those who served in the darkest days of the Troubles has been dragged through the mire.

I am pleased that the DUP has secured recognition for those who made a valuable contribution to the safety of our community.
