Peter and his Parliamentary privileges

Published 23/04/2010

I am quite astonished at the arrogance of Peter Robinson, who still appears to believe voters of Northern Ireland owe him a living and, moreover, that they owe him the right to continue to double-job.

The multiple benefits the Robinson household has enjoyed over the past 36 years, while Peter paraded red-bereted to the Ulster Hall and made a mess of his Clontibret stunt was bad enough.

But to so far exceed his Parliamentary privilege as to publicly brand the likes of Reg Empey, Michael McGimpsey and Trevor Ringland as "liars" was totally beyond acceptability. Robinson's recent behaviour in public diminishes us all.

I am deeply concerned that poor DUP judgment under Robinson's leadership is about to plunge us into freefall. That is the basis on which I look forward to May 6 - others might join me in being alert to the danger.
