Peter could have told people first
I still can't accept Peter Robinson told a newspaper - however reputable - that he was retiring and didn't do so in an address to his people.
A few sentences to praise our good qualities, reprove our foibles and finish with "How's about ye?"
I would suggest he also quote our "Ulster" poet John Hewitt, our "Irish" poet Seamus Heaney, or - better still - the words of "Scottish" poet Rabbie Burns:
We clamb the hill thegither;
And mony a cantie day, folk,
We've had wi' ane anither.
