Players' choice of team should be respected

Published 14/03/2013

I read with amazement the article in the Belfast Telegraph where Michael O'Neill said there were "moral issues" attached to Irish eligibility row (Sport, March 13).

What he does not realise is that players born in the north who choose to play for the team that many of us see as the national team of Ireland do so because this is the team that they support.

They choose not to play for the north and their decision needs to be respected.

I support the Republic, always have done, always will do. The only time that I would ever shout for England is when they play Northern Ireland.

Also, I am sure that James McClean does not like your newspaper saying that he is from Londonderry. He is from Derry.
