Police actions deserve praise

I WAS in Belfast on Wednesday, December 28 when a major incident in Castle Court occurred.

This was an occurrence that had the potential for fatalities, as a man was in possession of a firearm in a crowded area.

While the incident received media coverage, little has been made of the response from the PSNI, who arrived promptly and dealt with the incident in a proficient manner.

Given the seriousness of the situation they faced, the public owe a debt of gratitude to the professionalism of the officers.

It is all too easy to criticise the police when they are perceived to fall short in their duty. Now is a time to thank them for keeping the public safe.
