Politicians whip up old tensions
The squabble over the Lord Mayor's refusal to present a Duke of Edinburgh award to an Army cadet once again exposes the sectarianism that events such as the MTV awards cannot wash away.
On the one hand, we witnessed what politicians do best; whipping up tension and fear to maintain their sectarian powerbases.
On the other, it is a learning curve for Sinn Fein, who hung their youngest councillor out to dry - an embarrassing climbdown by them, nailing any illusions that you can ride two horses at once.
