I have read with interest articles about Edwin Poots's decision to ban blood donations from homosexual men.
After months of being lambasted about his "homophobic" views, I now read (News, November 29) that HIV cases are up by 17% and that 58% of these occurred in men having relationships with other men.
So, Mr Poots's decision has nothing to do with homophobia, just good sense. If anyone becomes infected through blood donations the health department will have to pay compensation.
