Priest does not speak for all of us

Published 29/05/2015

I write in relation to a letter in Belfast Telegraph (Write Back, May 26) from Fr Patrick McCafferty. He intimates that the "... so-called Equality Commission" is agenda-led. He is absolutely right. The clue is in the name: the agenda is "equality".

I and millions like me consider ourselves to be "sincere", yet Fr McCafferty, without consultation, purports to speak for all?

However, watch out all you couples (gay or straight) who are "living in sin".

I'm sure Fr McCafferty can confirm that the Catholic Church does not recognise any civil marriage (heterosexual or otherwise). So, their "agenda" immediately disenfranchises hundreds of thousands of families and, therefore, can never presume to speak for them.
