The BBC are clearly beset by major problems at this time but at the local level last week's "The View" programme displayed a significant lack of balance.
The programme dealt at some length with the very tragic death of Savita Halappanavar and five people in all gave their views on the circumstances of this case, all to the effect that legislation should be passed in the Republic giving effect to the Supreme Court decision in the 'X' case. These views are consistent with those of a large proportion, if not a majority, of the population of the Republic.
There are nevertheless those who hold that the current situation can be addressed otherwise, for example by a review of Medical Council guidelines, and who are prepared to articulate that position if asked.
The lack of balance arises from the failure to have such views represented.
