Progress needed against debt pile
THERESA Villiers calls on us to "live within our means".
Yet, while the budget deficit has fallen to 6.6%, we are still adding to our debt pile.
UK borrowing is forecast to be £95.5bn in 2014-15.
The deficit will not be eliminated in this parliament (as the Conservatives pledged in 2010). Furthermore, the Bank of England has not yet been confident enough to raise interest rates above their record low of 0.5%.
There is, indeed, a "great deal of hard-fought progress" still to be made.
