Public sector appointments need review
Do we need to review public service appointments in Northern Ireland? The recent pseudomonas debacle at the RVH certainly begs the question about the quality of governance by senior executives in the public sector.
The health minister, Edwin Poots, may feel that a public telling-off will help him solve issues of competency, but how far can we really be confident about appointments being made on our behalf in the public sector?
No doubt many of those who seek to chair public bodies are, indeed, well-meaning and have a ethos of public service - but how far is the appointment process transparent?
Surely the recent problems in health services (and last year in water) is a clear signal that we need to review governance issues and public sector appointments in Northern Ireland as soon as possible. This might give more transparency to the process.
