Putting abuses into context

Published 26/09/2012

Perhaps J Marstrand's memory is failing him/her (Write Back, September 25).

Before the invasion of Iraq a brutal and sadistic dictator had invaded a neighbour, used chemical weapons on the Kurds and had many of his own people executed. And a mass-murder gang had killed thousands on 9/11.

Perhaps he/she remembers the fatwa issued against Salman Rushdie that could have seen him murdered for merely imagining a conversation between the Prophet and the Devil and publishing it.
