Rabbit's killing is food for thought

Published 01/06/2015

The on-air killing of a rabbit by a Danish radio presenter, who then cooked and ate the animal, has caused a global outcry.

While I agree that animals should never have to suffer for entertainment, millions of rabbits are farmed and killed for meat in the UK every year.

Almost one billion chickens, sheep, cows and pigs are similarly butchered for the nation's dinner plates each year.

Each one of them is an individual with the same capacity for love, fear, affection and pain as any pet we share our home with.

If people are upset, I would urge them to think of all of those other animals, too, and consider dropping meat from their diet.
