Reaching out to women smacks of desperation

Published 13/04/2015

As a previous Alliance voter, I am slightly concerned at the feminist approach being taken by the current MP in East Belfast.

Letters are being sent addressed only to female residents in a household encouraging them to vote, with male residents excluded.

In addition, election leaflets are being sent addressed to the female residents with none for the males.

According to David Ford, they are being sent (and I quote) "specifically to address the issue that politics is seen as an issue only for men in grey suits".

What a patronising approach, intimating that women are incapable of making a decision without a chummy, "we are in this together"-type letter.

In any other situation this would be seen as blatant sexism and smacks of desperation on the Alliance Party's behalf.
