Read the facts before making snap judgment

I WOULD like the opportunity to respond to a recent correspondent, Patrick Clarke, regarding End Year Flexibility (Write Back, January 19).

From the comments made, it is clear Mr Clarke is not aware of the facts. On Monday, January 17, the Finance Minister confirmed that on October 20, 2010, Executive ministers were made aware by him that the British Treasury had taken away the accumulated EYF funding, including £87m from education.

During the Budget process, I raised the issue of End Year Flexibility with Executive colleagues and I recently met the Finance Minister for discussions in relation to this.

I will do everything in my power to stop the British Treasury from robbing our education system of money it deserves.

I would respectfully suggest that, in future, before Mr Clarke puts pen to paper, he checks his facts.
