Have the flags of every nation at Belfast City Hall. Seriously. Surround the top of the building with them.
It would become a tourist attraction. People could dander around the building on a flag hunt and have photos of themselves under their own country's flag. Come on. Why not?
Then sell mini flags made of good old Ulster linen to the tourists. They will lap it up and the decent citizens of the Belfast can get on with their lives.
Why stop there? Pedestrianise the area surrounding the City Hall as was proposed years ago. Call it World Flag Square or Flag Plaza.
A place that was once a scene of violence over flags but is now a place for everyone and every flag. This is what the place needs -an international outward looking approach.
In the meantime Belfast City Hall could fly the flag of Belfast. It is already on the gates of Belfast City Hall. See
