Reasons for a free Press

There are times when the Press can be thought to be ruthless when they get their teeth into a ‘good’ story.
However, when I see documentaries and investigative journalism that exposes the hypocrisy and corruption of people who scorn and abuse our society, I am grateful we have a ‘nosey’ Press.
There are times we need the pit-bulls to bare their teeth at those who abuse power, whether such abuse takes place in the back streets or in the opulence of our board rooms.
Dictators throughout history will first silence the free Press to make way for their programme of oppression and brainwashing.
Our Marxist republican politicians in Stormont must be delighted to see a form of jackboot
being used against part of the British Press in Belfast.
