Reflections on Jeffrey's UDR service
Jeffrey Donaldson's first salvo in his Westminster election crusade was to be expected: attack fellow unionist candidates and intertwine saving the Union with talking up his past - albeit short - membership of the UDR.
It's condescending of him to infer his short membership gives him some sort of 'special category status' to that of the vast majority of ex-servicemen and woman, like myself, who have remained unpretentious, benevolent and reserved as regards our current and past membership.
When one further reflects the position that Jeffrey has moved to politically, where he and his DUP colleagues have accepted unrepentant terrorists and supporters of the IRA campaign as their partners in a dysfunctional government, I find it both regrettable and repulsive.
