Republic should cosy up to UK - if it exists

Published 05/07/2016

Years ago the late Conor Cruise O'Brien warned me that my desire for a more integrated EU would have the opposite effect.

The consequences of the UK's referendum can result in the collapse of the EU, as that organisation may be like a house of cards; remove one and all could fall under a tide of ultra-nationalism.

In that event perhaps we in the Republic should seek a much closer relationship with the UK? That is if it still exists in the future.
