I was an SDLP canvasser on Crossgar doorsteps when the news of the day was about electoral pacts in Fermanagh.
Margaret Ritchie was on the streets of Crossgar, doing TV, radio and Press interviews. On the airwaves, her recognisable voice was firmly against Gerry Adams's offer of sectarian nationalist pacts in Fermanagh and South Belfast.
An instant response from one resident: "I'm glad the SDLP now has a leader with the guts to stand up to Sinn Fein."
