Rory's success is to be applauded

Published 13/04/2011

Some people need a reality check. Rory McIlroy is 21 years old and he messed up a game of golf.

To listen to the wailing and moaning of golfers and sports commentators - mostly older men who have never achieved a fraction of what Rory has in his life to date - you'd think he had committed some heinous crime.

The pressure of expectation placed on him is ridiculous. He will have his day in the sun.

So instead of acting as if he has let us down, we should congratulate him for his magnificent achievement in even being in contention to win the Masters in the first place.
