Ryanair check-in fees completely excessive

Published 15/08/2016

My wife and I recently travelled to Northern Ireland from Australia to visit my widowed mother, who lives alone in Portrush.

After visiting mum, my wife and I had a Ryanair flight from Belfast International Airport to Barcelona.

We were told that as we had not checked in online, we must pay £45 each for the privilege of Ryanair allowing us to check in and board. (I acknowledge the requirement to check in online is stated in the company's terms and conditions.)

After discussion with the supervisor (who advised me to pay, otherwise we would not be permitted to board), I reluctantly paid the £90. I am unclear as to how Ryanair is allowed to make such an excessive charge.

I have written to Ryanair for an explanation. Needless to say, we will never travel with Ryanair again.
