I WAS amazed at the sight of Enda Kenny's so-called 'new' cabinet. The Irish public were subjected to various forms of hyperbole describing the election outcome as a "revolution" and a "new dawn".
But Enda decided to give us the same, old, tired faces. Ten of the 15 ministers have all served either as senior or junior ministers in the last Fine Gael-Labour government in the 1990s.
Even more depressing is the fact that, yet again, women make up a tiny minority, receiving only two cabinet positions.
This 'new' cabinet reminds one of the words of Pete Townshend of The Who, when he described politics as: "Meet the new boss, the same as the old boss". Very pertinent, indeed.
