Scapegoating teachers is the lazy solution
I read your editorial (Comment, January 2) with some astonishment. I had thought the problem of underachievement by boys was, perhaps, a societal issue. Silly me. It is the fault of teachers, then.
Presumably, it's also their teachers' fault when boys are caught on camera rioting, or, as the Telegraph shows, teenagers on drunken nights out - not their parents' responsibility.
Unfortunately, too many boys (and girls) see much evidence in Northern Ireland society that education and teachers don't much matter. That it's only for snobs.
And you blame the teachers. What about parents and the rest of us?
