Schools need a uniform Easter

Published 07/04/2008

Why do we tolerate the mess that schools make of Easter holidays?

My children have just had two miserable, cold, wet and windy weeks and now they return to school while the sun is shining.

Other children are still on holiday and some, who should have returned to school, are taking a few extra days because their friends are still on holiday. There is simple solution. All schools take Good Friday and Easter Monday off, and then the second full week in April off.

If the two holidays happen to match, giving us one long holiday, so much the better. The alternative is to fix Easter permanently in the middle of April.

If schools cannot reach agreement on Easter holidays, it is time our MLAs did their job and made sensible proposals on this.
