Score with Glasgow United

Published 15/04/2008

Recent writers on the subject of UK and all-Ireland football teams lack vision. To launch this bold new era of footballing consolidation I propose that Celtic and Rangers, beloved of so many in Ireland, join forces to form Glasgow United.

Think of the possibilities: crowds of over 100,000 at every game, winning the league title every season, guaranteed access to Champions League millions, perhaps even a long overdue invite to the Premier League and no more Old Firm rivalry.

All this, however, pales into insignificance when compared with the greatest achievement of this team: the elimination of sectarianism at a stroke!
