Scrabble game not to the letter

Published 07/11/2012

Scrabble champion Paul Gallen's board left me with an overwhelming sense of confusion (News, November 5).

'Zari', 'dowp', 'kows' and 'pulli' elicited no entry in my Penguin English Dictionary. The internet was my next recourse. 'Dowp' is dialect for buttocks, 'zari' an Indian thread, but no definition could I find for 'kows', or 'pulli'.

If any language or proper name is permitted, chances are any odd combination will work.
