Once upon a time, in order to end murderous violence, the SDLP went along with the polite fiction that the IRA and Sinn Fein were separate and divorced.
Now we have the sad spectacle of SDLP councillors clinging to Sinn Fein coat-tails in support of an absurd lie: that civil society can be improved by politicians voting to redefine marriage as anything other than a unique contract between one man and one woman to live together as husband and wife.
