Search for tank driver's relatives

Published 30/12/2009

I am trying to contact Robert Massey-Crone, who I believe may be from the Londonderry area.

He submitted a photograph of his uncle David Crone to a 7th Hussars website back in May. It had been taken round about 1935.

David - nicknamed 'Shandu' - was killed on November 21, 1941 in the Western Desert at the battle of Sidi Rizegh. He was the driver of a tank and my father Allan Walsh was the gunner, who along with the tank commander Ralph Younger and the wireless operator Paddy Doyle, scrambled out, wounded but alive.

Two years ago, I was able to re-unite my father and Paddy and they have regularly been in touch since then.

I know he would love to speak to any surviving family members.
