Security staff at Belfast airport failed to listen
Wednesday, 24 June 2009
I note that several people have written in about the security staff at Belfast International Airport.
We, too, suffered at their hands while travelling to Spain at Easter.
My teenage daughter is deaf and on occasion her hearing aids set off the alarm when
passing through the security equipment. She is very conscious of this and became agitated beforehand as she doesn't like attention being drawn to her. I said I would let her go before me and if the alarm went off I would explain to staff.
Never got the chance. The female member of staff on the other side of the equipment was shouting for me to come on through before my daughter while I was trying to explain what could happen — but she just shouted me down.
Coming back through the Spanish airport the alarm did ring. The lady there took time to listen and was very courteous.
It has now become a part of our holiday that we don't look
forward to. I know they are busy, but do they really need to be so rude and dismissive of people?

I am sure the owners of BIA must be aware of these complaints about their thoughtless, rude and apparently uncaring security staff. Therefore, they should be taking these complaints on board and doing someting about them. Why are these types of stories about the security staff not making the main UTV or BBC Newsline programmes at tea time?
