Settle divisive issues at the ballot box
AMNESTY claimed in your newspaper (May 23) that 68% of Northern Ireland people supports same-sex marriage. That may or may not be true (though I would doubt it).
However, what an opportunity just missed at the recent election. Surely the simple thing would be to have these divisive questions on the ballot paper and answered by the electorate in a real poll.
Gay marriage, integrated education, limited abortion could all be answered with a simple 'X'. But, then, what would they have to argue about at Stormont?
Oh, yes. There's always flags and expenses.
