Simpson out to bury Derry

Monday, 27 July 2009

John Simpson postulated in his article ‘Two airports, one choice', (Business Telegraph, July 21) “the province has two main commercially viable airports”, dismissing City of Derry Airport by association, while promoting the case for development of Belfast City Airport.

Firstly, it is a view which I share with many others, that if Belfast City Airport were intent on playing their role for the greater economic good of Northern Ireland, they would not be blatantly poaching existing Ryanair business which has been the basis for increased viability of the north west airport in recent times, delivering economic benefit to the local community in the process.

As for Mr Simpson's assertion that Belfast City Airport is more convenient for a majori

ty of Northern Ireland residents, well, I go back to my opening point. Is Mr Simpson confident that his figures on this add up?

Equality and ‘Team Northern Ireland' as concepts are alive and well, as long as those living on the eastern foreshore are deemed more ‘equal' than everyone else.

Gritty, moving and heroic...Billy plays captured life here

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times ... Sunday's 30th anniversary screening of the seminal Too Late to Talk to Billy was riveting viewing. But it wasn't nostalgic viewing.

Why trying to go on a diet is never really a piece of cake

Some people make New Year’s resolutions, I make lists. Every new year I determine to keep track of everything I spend and everything I eat and drink.

Scary movie? Their jaws were sore from laughing

Teenage boys love horror films and I have two who are in charge of the remote control in our house, so naturally there’s gore-a-plenty on the box most weekends. However, until recently one film was banned.
