Stand together and we will defeat this evil

I am a former garda and I was very saddened by the vicious murder of a member of the force.

Since leaving Ireland, I have been a police officer in Canada for the past 33 years. I have witnessed and attended funerals of many murdered colleagues.

I say to police in Ireland: never let the thugs bring you down.

I say to those who know: turn in these killers, stop being afraid of the thugs. Do the right thing.

My deepest sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.

Another hero has been murdered in Ireland.

KIERAN O'CONNOR
