Is Michael McGimpsey really aware of just how ridiculous a decision he has made to downgrade Whiteabbey and Mid-Ulster Hospitals?
From now on, every death that happens because a patient was unable to reach Antrim Hospital in time will be down to him.
As he represents South Belfast, I presume he lives in Belfast and so has half-a-dozen hospitals to choose from. People in East Antrim and Mid-Ulster do not.
Perhaps Mr McGimpsey could explain how patients are supposed to get to Antrim Hospital if, like my mother, they cannot drive.
While I don't know if there is a direct bus link between Magherafelt and Antrim, there certainly is not one from Carrickfergus. To get there by train means going to Belfast and then getting a train to Antrim. My mother can always send him the taxi bill, I suppose.
Mr McGimpsey now has a clear choice: either he reverses his decision or he should resign.
